5 implant myths that many misjudge

by Denis-Focus Dental

If you are thinking about a dental implant, you have probably already come across contradictory information. Forums, testimonials from friends, statements such as „I've heard that ...“ - it's no wonder that uncertainty arises.

If you are thinking about a dental implant, you have probably already come across contradictory information. Forums, testimonials from friends, statements such as „I've heard that ...“ - it's no wonder that uncertainty arises.

This article was written to Calm, technically correct and comprehensible answers to the most common concerns about dental implants. No advertising. No scaremongering. No exaggerations. Just clear, honest information.

Myth 1: „An implant only lasts a few years“

This is one of the most persistent fears - but it is in line with not the reality.

With careful planning and regular check-ups, a high-quality dental implant can be over decades, under favorable conditions even for life, be a stable solution.

Three factors are decisive for long-term success:

  • the quality of the implant,
  • a precise, digitally planned implantation,
  • as well as the patient's oral hygiene and regular follow-up examinations.

An implant „does not break“ - problems usually arise when the surrounding tissue is neglected. This is a significant difference.

Myth 2: „Cheap and expensive implants perform the same“

There are good reasons why implants are offered in very different price ranges.

The differences can be seen above all in:

  • the materials used,
  • the surface structure,
  • long-term scientific documentation,
  • and the question of whether suitable components will still be available after 10-15 years.

Problems often occur with very inexpensive implant systems not immediately, It is often more time-consuming and costly to correct.

Myth 3: „A cheap implant is a good solution“

This may seem so in the short term. In the long term, however, the wrong choice of implant can lead to:

  • Bone resorption,
  • Inflammations,
  • unstable crowns
  • or even lead to a complete replacement.

For this reason, responsible practice falls short of No specific professional quality level - even if this may seem more expensive at first glance.

Myth 4: „Inserting an implant is very painful“

At this point, many patients experience a Positive surprise.

The implantation takes place:

  • under local anesthesia,
  • in a relatively short time,
  • and is often described as comparable to a filling treatment.

The fear often relates more to the idea of a surgical procedure than to the actual pain.

Myth 5: „An implant does not feel like your own tooth“

An implant comes very close to a natural tooth in terms of function and aesthetics:

  • normal chewing sensation,
  • a natural-looking smile,
  • a stable hold.

The most important difference is that an implant does not have a nerve. This means that it can do not hurt in the same way like a natural tooth.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

How long does the healing phase take after implantation?

The healing time is usually around 3-6 months. During this phase, the implant bonds firmly with the bone. The exact duration depends on individual requirements and the technique used.

How long does the procedure itself take?

The insertion of an implant usually takes between 20 and 40 minutes. Many patients find the procedure less stressful than expected.

What happens if there is not enough bone?

In many cases, the bone can be prepared using modern bone augmentation procedures. Today, this is a routine part of implantology and not a criterion for exclusion.

Can an implant be rejected?

This is a rare occurrence and usually becomes apparent during the healing phase. Careful planning, high-quality implants and regular check-ups can greatly reduce this risk.

Does an implant require special care?

Care is similar to that of natural teeth: thorough daily oral hygiene, cleaning between the teeth and regular check-ups are crucial.

Is an implant a permanent solution?

Under good conditions, an implant can provide a very long-term restoration - for many decades. This requires consistent aftercare and good oral hygiene.

For whom is an implant suitable - and for whom not?

An implant can be a good solution if you:

  • want a stable, long-term supply,
  • value natural chewing and an esthetic result,
  • are prepared to undergo regular checks.

This solution is less suitable if:

  • cooperation in aftercare is not possible,
  • serious, untreated general illnesses are present,
  • only a short-term interim solution is being sought.

A dental implant is not a quick emergency solution, but a Long-term decision.

The decisive factors are:

  • customized, digital planning,
  • a proven implant system,
  • as well as the experience of the treating specialist staff.

If these requirements are met, an implant is not just a dental prosthesis, but one above all: Security.

If you would like to find out which solution makes sense and is safe in your individual case, a personal consultation can provide clarity - without any pressure to make a decision, in a relaxed atmosphere.
