One Resection is always considered when a comprehensive root canal treatment is not possible or when the healing process has not occurred after multiple attempts. Therefore, the Resection As a rule, this is the last resort to save the tooth. This preserves a large part of the root mass, so the tooth neither dies nor has to be extracted.

Our oral surgeon will resect the damaged parts of the tooth. The procedure will take place in our clinic's dental surgery. During the Resection the entire root is not removed – only a part of it, usually the root tip. The doctor must proceed very carefully and expose the root through the gums and jawbone. Normally, approx. three millimeters of the root tip taken. According to German Dental Association Resection is an established, tooth-preserving method in modern maxillofacial surgery.
