What is a sinus lift – and why is it necessary?

A Sinus lift (Sinus floor elevation) is a jaw surgery procedure in which the bony floor of the maxillary sinus is raised and filled with bone substitute material. This procedure is necessary when there is insufficient bone height in the upper jaw for an implant – without a sinus lift, almost half of all implantations in the upper jaw would not be possible.

The bone resorbs when the jaw has been toothless for a long time or has not been adequately supplied after tooth loss. The body no longer receives signals that would justify maintaining the bone structure – neither through biting pressure nor chewing load. This process is only stimulated again when implants are placed, which simulate the natural tooth root.

This is how the procedure works at Denis-Focus Dental

In this animated explanation, you'll see how the sinus lift procedure is performed at Denis-Focus Dental – from bone augmentation to implantation. Clearly and precisely explained in German.

When is a sinus lift necessary?

    When is the procedure necessary?

    🦷
    Insufficient bone supply
Less than 8–10 mm of bone height in the posterior maxilla – too little for a secure implant without prior bone augmentation.
    Prolonged edentulism
The bone deteriorates when the jaw has been without teeth and without functional load for years – a common phenomenon in the upper jaw.
    📐
    Large Pine Cave
Anatomically, the maxillary sinus can extend deep into the jaw, leaving little room for implants, regardless of tooth loss.

Sinus lift in Hungary at Denis-Focus Dental

Many patients who want implants in their upper jaw hear from their dentist that there is not enough bone. Sinus lift solves this exact problem – it creates the necessary bone base for secure implants. At Denis-Focus Dental, this procedure is routinely performed by specialized oral surgeons, using proven BioOss material and state-of-the-art diagnostics.

Sinus lift and implant – simultaneously or in two steps?

Whether a sinus lift and implantation are performed simultaneously or in two separate steps depends on the available residual bone. With at least 4–5 mm of residual bone, simultaneous implantation possible – saves time and an intervention. With very little bone available, the sinus lift is performed first, followed by a healing period of 4–6 months. Dental implantation. Denis-Focus Dental plans each case individually based on the 3D X-ray findings.

What material does Denis-Focus Dental use for sinus lifts?

Denis-Focus Dental uses Synthetic BioOss – an international standard in implantology. BioOss is a biocompatible, CE-certified bone substitute material that is gradually replaced by the patient's own bone. It offers a stable foundation for implants and is free from infection risks that can occur with autogenous bone grafts.
