Surgical tooth removal

We would much rather keep teeth than extract them. But sometimes this is exactly how we protect your health.

If several teeth can no longer be saved despite all efforts, these teeth must be removed. Surgical tooth removal has become routine nowadays.

Surgical tooth removal may be necessary for several reasons. Teeth may be severely damaged, displaced or supernumerary. In the case of adhesion to the bone or extremely curved roots, only surgical tooth removal and subsequent wound treatment is possible and necessary.

During the procedure, the affected tooth is first loosened and then removed from the jawbone using a forceps-like instrument or a lever. The resulting gap is cleaned and the overlying mucosa can be sutured shut. If the tooth breaks off during the procedure, the Dental crown If the tooth was already missing or is damaged down to the depths, it may be necessary to remove parts of the bone in order to reach the root of the tooth. More severe bleeding may occur after complete tooth removal. The patient then bites on a swab until the bleeding has stopped.

Removal of wisdom teeth

Teeth can also be displaced, not erupt, exert pressure on the neighboring teeth and displace the remaining teeth or cause pain.

This is often the case with not yet or only partially outgrown (retinted) Wisdom teeth so that removal is recommended. Otherwise, pain, inflammation, damage to neighboring teeth, cysts and tooth displacement can be the consequences.

In the case of impacted teeth, after sufficient local anesthesia, access to the impacted tooth is created via the gums and possibly the bone and the tooth is removed, possibly after division. The wound in the gum area is then sutured.

These procedures are usually performed under local anesthesia, in exceptional cases also under intravenous anesthesia.
